Frequently Asked Questions

Curious about karaoke?  Well, you’ve come to the right place!  Here are some of the most frequently asked questions about our line of work.

Q:        What is Karaoke?

A:        Karaoke let’s you play the songs that you like without the vocals.  The best part is that you supply the vocals!  Sing your heart out to your favorite tunes without the original recording artist interfering.  Don’t be shy and let that inner rock star or pop singer shine!

Q:        Can I record myself singing a song using a karaoke player?

A:        You bet!  You’ll need a microphone to record yourself, and make sure that your system supports audio recording.  Then, just press record and away you go.

Q:        Can I sing a duet using a karaoke machine?

A:        Sure you can!  We have systems that have more than one microphone adapter so you and a friend can sing your heart out.  The more, the merrier, especially at big events!

Q:        We’d like Karaoke for an event, how far in advance should we book?

A:        This is a great question!  As a general rule of thumb, the more notice you can give us, the better.  This ensures that we will have a chance to visit the venue, determine how long the setup and takedown will be and give you a complete, concise quote.  Why not give us a call and see if we have your date available?

Q:        What does CDG mean?  I’ve seen it posted on your website!

A:        The acronym CDG stands for Compact Disc Plus Graphic.  It is the most popular mechanism to deliver karaoke music available today.  What it does is shows you the lyrics to the song you’ve selected onscreen, but it highlights the words as you sing them so that you don’t miss a beat.

Q:        What does VCD stand for?

A:        VCD means Video Compact Disc.  A VCD will give you both lyrics that keep time with your selected song as well as a nice background.  One VCD has the ability to hold 11 songs, depending on the length of course.

Q:        I’ve never purchased a karaoke player before, where do I start?

A:        Well, a good place to start is our Houston location!  Our friendly staff has more than thirty years of experience providing premium brands of karaoke equipment to both residential and business clients.  We’ll assess your needs and subsequently put together a comprehensive system that meets your budget and your requirements.  If you’re looking for an incredibly comfortable customer service experience and a plethora of top brands, then Mega DJ should be your one and only stop!
